HOW MANY NEW SCHOLARSHIPS THIS YEAR?
By Guldal Ebeoglu | Project Division

Dear donor,
We have been accepting applications since mid September for high school scholarships. As the first 4+4 years in primary and secondary school is compulsory, we give scholarships to girls starting 9th grade to keep them in school and hope some of them will go on to university.
This is the busiest month of the year for CYDD headquarters in Istanbul and 110 CYDD branches all over Turkey as we have to process thousands of applications and assess their eligibility by end October.
Kardelen is one the high school students getting scholarship from CYDD.She says "I want to show that a girl can have aims and dreams beyond her means and if given a chance she can be successful. We only want to have equal rights and chances.I know that if I was born into another family, I could have been a mother of 3-4 myself but I am lucky that I was given a chance to study.I will become a female doctor.."
In our next report, we will let you know how many scholarships we could award this year. With your support, we hope we can give more scholarships every year..
Thank you for being with us.
Gratefully yours,

2000 new scholarships for 2019-2020
By Guldal Ebeoglu | Project Division

Dear friends,
We are happy and proud to announce that two thousand of our scholarship girls graduated in June 2019 and 400 of them will be continuing on to university. These 400 girls will be supported by our university scholarship project.
This year we aim to give a minimum of 2000 new scholarships to girls from disadvantaged families. We will start accepting scholarship applications in September and this year the scholarship amount is determined as 1400 TL (280$) to be paid in two installments in November and March.
Let's hear Ruken, one of our scholarship students who now continues to university :
"Hi I'm Ruken.I'm from Van. I lost my father when I was a few months old.It is hard to be a woman in the East.It was even harder to be without a father.I was aware that my only weapon to save myself was education. I went to clean houses with my mother, worked in the fields.Doing all this I observed people around me, in fact I observed myself.I did not want to lead a life like this. I wanted to improve myself intellectually and not work in jobs which only required physical effort. I had a lot of hardship to come to this point in my life. Hardships in my life are not yet over.I strive to exist and hope to be useful to the society I was born into with the profession I will study. I hope society will also continue to support my efforts.."
There are so many more Rukens who need our support. We hope to reach out to them with your support. More girls need to go on to high school and then to university for us to get closer to our ultimate goal of gender equality and a contemporary society..
Thank you for being with us..
Best regards,

HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS ALL OVER TURKEY
By Guldal Ebeoglu | Project Division

Scholarship distribution map for 2018-2019
Dear CYDD friend,
I would like to share with you the distribution of 2018-2019 high school scholarships which now looks somewhat different.
CYDD had started the scholarship project 22 years ago by giving scholarships to 17 girls from far eastern Turkey, Pervari, Siirt. Since then we have been supporting girls in the eastern and southeastern towns where families were large and reluctant to send girls to school, either keeping them home as helping hands or marrying them off at a very early age to ease the burden of a large family.
For some time now CYDD has increased the number of scholarships given to the girls in large western towns like Istanbul and Izmir as many families from the east are moving to the west either due to financial difficulties or due to the unrest in their towns. These families struggle in these big towns and CYDD feels the responsibility to support these girls financially as well as helping them to adapt to their new surroundings through local CYDD branches.
We thank you for your valuable support to empower as many girls as possible.
Best regards,
