We extend our sincere gratitude for the unwavering support provided to the LESPLAY (Learn, Speak, and Play) program, which continues to positively impact the lives of children in the Southwest region of Cameroon. Through our innovative approach to informal learning, play, and peer interaction, LESPLAY empowers children to identify real-world challenges and devise creative solutions. Our approach encompasses life skills and entrepreneurship training, creative arts for learning and self-expression, and instruction on the use of digital tools and technologies. While we continued with our regular weekly LESPLAY sessions at our Youth Resource Center Community Field Road Limbe, we also engaged more outdoor activities and visits to partner organisations.
Highlights:
LESPLAY at Emmanuel Memorial Orphanage:
Twenty enthusiastic children at the Emmanuel Memorial Home of Hope Orphanage participated in workshops focusing on children's rights. They confidently voiced their entitlements, such as the right to education and health, and creatively represented them diagrammatically. Additionally, they engaged in the captivating "Who is Hiding" game, showcasing their understanding of animal identification and matching.
Youth Socio-Professional and Economic Integration Workshop series
As part of our commitment to equipping children with essential life skills, we introduced a series of socio-professional and economic integration workshops. These sessions have positively impacted over 25 young LESPLAY beneficiaries, empowering them to identify their talents, seek mentorship, engage in volunteering, and develop essential job-seeking skills. Additionally, aspiring young entrepreneurs are guided on how to develop project ideas, present them, and mobilize funding and resources, starting with support from family members.
Workshop on Environmental Sustainability:
Recognizing the critical importance of environmental stewardship, we conducted a workshop emphasizing the significance of a clean and safe environment for sustainable development. Drawing inspiration from "Follow Your Heart: The School for Multipotentialites," the over 20 participants were encouraged to leverage their multiple talents to address environmental challenges. The event, held at Down Beach Limbe, highlighted the urgency of preserving oceans and water bodies, with participants expressing a strong commitment to combating pollution and promoting sustainable practices.
Gender Awareness workshop:
In our ongoing efforts to unlock children's potential, a gender awareness session was conducted. Children shared insights into the types of toys typically associated with their gender and were educated on the principles of gender equality. This session aimed to foster inclusivity and empower children to challenge societal norms.
