A Message of Gratitude

Every day at Lesedi la Batho Community Centre, we meet people whose stories remind us that behind every statistic is a human being longing for hope, dignity, and the chance to build a better future. Thanks to your generosity through GlobalGiving, we have been able to stand beside families during some of their most difficult moments. Your support has meant more than food, clothing, or essential services—it has reminded vulnerable individuals that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

Your kindness has enabled us to provide emergency food relief, clothing, household essentials, psychosocial support, and practical interventions to families facing unemployment, poverty, and other social challenges. We also strengthened our partnership with the Vodacom Foundation, which donated 20 Eco Tanks and one JoJo water tank to help communities experiencing severe water shortages in Mabopane, Klipgat, and Winterveldt. Watching families and Early Childhood Development centres receive reliable access to water was a powerful reminder that when people come together with compassion, lives can be transformed.

Lives Touched Through Your Support

Our social worker and Social Auxiliary Workers conducted home visits, one-on-one support sessions, referrals, and ongoing case management for vulnerable families. Distributing clothing, household goods, rice packs, and food parcels, while also helping beneficiaries access critical government services such as identity documentation and education. Every intervention represented an opportunity to restore dignity and create hope where it had almost been lost.

One of the families we supported was Ivonia and her grandmother. Ivonia is a 19 year old young girl who has never known either of her parents. She is being lovingly raised by her grandmother, whose only source of income is an old-age pension. Despite her grandmother's unwavering love and determination, there are many days when providing life's basic necessities is a struggle. During our financial year-end, Lesedi la Batho purchased and delivered a food hamper to their home. It was a simple act, but one that brought comfort and relief to a family doing everything possible to overcome difficult circumstances. Moments like these remind us that food is not only nourishment—it is hope, security, and the reassurance that someone cares.

We also met Primrose, a courageous 20-year-old young woman whose life changed forever during the COVID-19 pandemic when she lost both of her parents within a short period. Today, she shares a home with her older brother, his wife, and their children, while relying on her sister, who lives in an outside room on the same property, to provide meals whenever possible. Although surrounded by family, the emotional and financial challenges she faces remain immense. Receiving a food hamper did not erase her hardship, but it eased the burden and reminded her that her community has not forgotten her. It was a small gesture that carried a powerful message of compassion and solidarity.

The story of Petros also inspired us. A young man who had spent years trying to obtain his South African identity document. Because of an administrative error, he was repeatedly turned away and was unable to access employment opportunities. Our outreach team walked alongside him, accompanying him to the Department of Home Affairs, advocating on his behalf, and supporting him through every step of the process. After months of perseverance, Petros finally received his ID. Today, he is no longer volunteering but has secured paid employment at the very organisation where he once served without pay. Seeing the pride on his face as he held his identity document reminded us that something as simple as an ID can restore dignity, unlock opportunity, and completely change the course of a person's life.

We were equally encouraged by the story of a young girl in grade three whose education had come to an abrupt halt after her mother became ill and lost her source of income. Without money for transport, the child remained at home, watching her dreams slip further away each day. Through counselling, family support, and close collaboration with the family, Lesedi la Batho helped transfer her to Retlilepele Primary school, a school closer to home where she could walk safely each day. She is now back in school, thriving in her studies, and has successfully passed both Term 1 and Term 2. For this young girl, returning to school meant much more than returning to a classroom—it meant reclaiming her future.

A child returned to school with renewed confidence and hope. Vulnerable households gained access to clean water, and grandparents, young adults, and children were reminded that there are people who believe in them and are willing to walk alongside them.
