Lesedi la Batho ("Light for the People") offers social relief and hope for people living in poverty-stricken, underserved areas of our community with little opportunity to improve their lives and become independent of handouts. We believe every person has the right to basic needs and to provide for their children. COVID-19 pandemic widened the gap of socio- inequality making access to basic services even harder for low income groups who need a helping hand now more than ever before.
Lesedi la Batho (Light of the people) offers social relief to people in the community who face challenges in accessing basic needs which may leads to unemployment, poverty and public services. Often, the challenges that communities face can lead to future blockage of the country's resources that are created to ease the social imbalance in the community such as education and Child support grant. These challenges include obtaing an identity document (ID), healthcare, shelter, food and clothes.
We aims to play an impactful role in the lives of the people we serve by reduce the current obstacles that create vulnerability in their lives. By providing 12 low cost homes, 40 IDs and Birth certificates, 10 matric re-write, 30 School uniform and stationary, 20 DNA testing and 1000 food parcels the community members are then able to become financially independent contributing members of the local economic hub.
Our goal is to bridge the economical imbalance that exist in the previously disadvantaged communities by providing education, support and action to assist them in understanding their rights to basic needs and how to access these needs. We furthermore would like not only to improve the lives of the individuals we work with, but to see our community as a whole become a thriving, economically-stimulated place of opportunity for all.
