The needs are huge, especially in food supplies (canned and fresh), medicines, hygienic materials, medical supplies, blankets and mattresses for refugees in mountanous regions, potable water, and supply of hot water. It is also important to engage displaced communities in relief efforts (such as cooking, packing, and distribution, etc.) where appropriate, to mitigate the sense of hopelessness and helplessness that will further exacerbate the psychological crisis.
The first installment of emergency funds have allowed us to serve hot meals to 2,000 refugees in Zgharta Caza with our local partner, the René Moawad Foundation, and provide critical medicines to 160 chronically sick refugees in Koura. We are also working with a hospital in the Chouf to equip it with disposable medical supplies to treat refugees suffering from kidneys problems (dialysis) and other health problems, as some regions were not equipped to treat a big number of chronic patients and massive displacement.
