Three Years of Celebrating Three Years of Angaza Resource Centre: Learning, Growing and Reaching Further
The past few months have been an encouraging period for Angaza Resource Centre (ARC). As we celebrated three years of providing children with access to learning resources, we also continued investing in young people's development and made significant progress towards extending our reach beyond the four schools we currently serve.
On 1 July 2026, Angaza Resource Centre marked its third anniversary. Since opening in July 2023, the Centre has continued to provide children in underserved communities with access to books, literacy support, ICT lessons and other learning opportunities.
Three years on, ARC remains an important resource for children and partner schools in the Kibuli-Kabalagala community. We continue to work with our four existing partner schools, supporting children's literacy development and providing access to ICT learning. The anniversary offered an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, appreciate the people who have contributed to the Centre's growth and look ahead to the work still to be done.
Equipping Young People with Skills for Everyday Life
In September, ARC held its 3rd holiday programme, bringing together over 25 young people for learning activities that extend beyond the regular school curriculum.
One of the highlights was a financial literacy session facilitated by KII Impact. Four young trainers, accompanied by their team leader, introduced participants to basic financial concepts through the Smart Pesa card game. The interactive sessions explored the importance of insurance, making thoughtful decisions about money and approaching banks and other financial institutions with greater awareness. We appreciate the KII Impact team for generously sharing their time, knowledge and expertise with our young people.
The programme also included First Aid training facilitated by the Uganda Red Cross. More than 25 students participated, learning how to respond to common emergencies and provide basic assistance. The training covered practical areas such as resuscitation, checking a person's pulse, attending to cuts and burns, and responding to accidents and dislocations.
These sessions gave young people an opportunity to acquire practical knowledge that they can apply in their everyday lives. At the ARC, we believe that learning should go beyond academic subjects. Young people also need opportunities to develop life skills, make informed decisions and build the confidence to respond to different situations.
Bringing the Angaza Mobile Library Closer to Reality
One of our most significant developments this period has been the progress made towards the Angaza Mobile Library Project.
We were delighted to receive a refurbished container and a 5,000-litre water tank, generously donated by SICPA Uganda. Both have now been installed. The container will serve as a service station for the Angaza Mobile Library, providing an important operational base as we prepare to take books and learning opportunities to children in underserved communities.
This contribution brings us one step closer to turning the mobile library vision into reality. We are incredibly grateful to SICPA Uganda for believing in this dream and helping us move it forward.
We have also made progress in expanding the project's reach. Having reached capacity with our four existing partner schools, we have identified and onboarded three additional schools serving the Kibuli-Wabigalo communities. These schools will join the Angaza Mobile Library Project, bringing our partner-school network to seven.
Our fundraising efforts are also gaining momentum. We have so far raised UGX 45 million towards our current target of UGX 100 million, leaving UGX 55 million to raise to enable us to launch the project. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to making reading materials more accessible to children who need them.
We hope to roll out Phase One of the project as early as January 2027, beginning with capacity-building for teachers in the three new partner schools. This will be followed by the introduction of mobile libraries and suitable reading materials, alongside regular monitoring to understand how the resources are being used and how children's reading develops.
The project will build on ARC's experience working with its existing partner schools while allowing us to reach children in three additional schools. We look forward to learning from this first phase and using those lessons to strengthen the model as the project grows.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the past few months, we are encouraged by how far we have come and the partnerships that continue to make our work possible. Three years after ARC opened its doors, we remain committed to ensuring that children have access to the resources and support they need to learn and thrive.
The Angaza Mobile Library is an important next step in this journey. With three additional schools on board, the container and water tank installed, and UGX 45 million already raised, we are building a strong foundation for the project's launch.
We still have UGX 55 million to raise towards our current target. We invite you to continue being part of this journey. Your support will help us bring books closer to more children and create more opportunities for them to develop a love for reading.
To everyone who continues to support the Angaza Resource Centre, thank you. Every contribution helps us take another step towards making learning resources more accessible to children in our communities.
