Build Resource Centre for 4000 children in Kibuli

REPORTING PERIOD: APRIL-JUNE 2026

Welcome to our second progress report of the year. We hope that you have been keeping well.

Over the past three months, the Angaza Resource Centre (ARC) has continued to grow as a vibrant learning hub for children, teachers, and the wider community. This quarter focused on strengthening literacy instruction, keeping young people meaningfully engaged during the school holiday, and taking an exciting step towards expanding our reach through the Angaza Mobile Library Project.

Strengthening Literacy Through Teacher Training

In May, the ARC hosted a three-day Phonics Refresher Training for teachers from our four partner schools. The training focused on strengthening foundational literacy instruction by revisiting key concepts, including sounds, syllables, segmenting, blending, and digraphs.

Strong literacy outcomes begin with confident teachers. By investing in educators, we are helping improve reading instruction for hundreds of children beyond the walls of the Resource Centre. Throughout the sessions, teachers actively shared classroom experiences, explored practical teaching strategies, and reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing confident readers.

We are grateful to Read for Life for facilitating the training and sharing their expertise, and to our supporters whose generosity made this initiative possible.

Keeping Learning Alive During the School Holiday

From 4th to 22nd May, we held our second Holiday Programme of the year, bringing together more than 25 teenagers and young adults for three weeks of learning, creativity, and personal growth.

The programme combined ICT lessons, literacy activities, and soft skills development, with sessions on communication, critical thinking, and behavioural management. We also had guest facilitators who introduced participants to practical life skills and mentorship opportunities.

The programme concluded with a lively football match between the holiday programme participants and 4040 volunteers. What began as a friendly challenge ended with plenty of laughter, teamwork, and memories that participants are still talking about.

Above all, the programme provided young people with a safe and engaging environment during the school holiday while continuing to nurture the confidence, curiosity, and life skills that complement academic learning.

Looking Ahead: Growing Beyond Our Walls

In our previous report, we shared that 4040 would participate in GlobalGiving's Little by Little Campaign to raise funds for the Angaza Mobile Library Project. We are delighted to share that, thanks to your incredible generosity, the campaign raised USD 4,217!

This achievement brings us one step closer to making the Mobile Library a reality!

While the Angaza Resource Centre continues to serve as an important learning hub in Kibuli and Kabalagala, we know that many children still have limited access to books and quality reading materials. The Mobile Library Project is our response to this challenge. It will enable us to take books, literacy activities, and reading opportunities directly into schools and communities, reaching children who may not otherwise have access to these resources.

As we move into the next quarter, our focus will be on planning the project's implementation and laying the foundation for this exciting new chapter.
