The goal of DEEP impact is to set up an African Beads & Print Crafts & 'Jua-Kali' Vocational Enterprise Training Unit (VETU) in 9 slums of Nairobi. VETU will train 480 unemployed youth in two years to reduce victimization from HIV, Drugs abuse, Child headed households grief, teen age pregnancy, school dropouts and such kinds of poverty ridden circumstances vanished their primary goal of life. The trainee will earn average $60 while learning by selling their finished product to VETU's associates.
According to Kenya County development plan 2018-2022 for Nairobi County shows 1,210,213 (Female 561,457 and 648,756 male) youth are unemployed, who are victimized of HIV, Drugs abused, Child headed households, teen pregnancy, school dropouts and such kinds of poverty ridden circumstances vanished them their primary goal of life, and emanating stealing, rubbery, sex trafficking, prostitutions etc., The youth age 19 to 30 will be the final beneficiaries to this project by earning while learning.
AMURT had proven to employ 1600 youth in its pervious similar project funded by DOS, and it entails the proposed strategies of VETU to continue the project. VETU will train on making Crafts, Bead work, embroidery, Cooking classes, Hair & Beauty Salon and Basic Business Administration skills. The trainee will sale their finished product to VETU while on training and earn average $60 per month. VETU sales the products to its business associates and pay the trainee. It has brought positive changes.
The expected impacts are each trainee qualify for a Basic JUA-KALI Skills certificate for BEAD work & other specialism which boost their morale. Each trainee to start independent income generation through practice of Beads and prints work/subject specialism within 1 months of course. Each student to save & invest $60 into their own business. Each trainee to become a member of a registered CHAMA (savings and loaning group) within 6 months. Expected 480 youth will be trained in two VETU in 2 years
