At just 13 years old, one girl’s transformation through Glad’s House is a powerful testament to resilience and the potential of holistic, community-based support. Raised on the streets in extremely harsh conditions, with both parents also living on the streets and neglecting her education, she endured deep trauma and frequent abuse, particularly from her mother, who resisted letting her go. Despite the odds, her spirit remained unbroken.
Now 15, she has finally joined formal education under the Competency-Based Curriculum, beginning in Grade 4. She brings unmatched energy to learning and fully embraces Glad’s House programs. Through volleyball and dance, she has found a safe space, confidence, and joy. “I would really love to be a professional volleyballer. I’d like to play for Malkia Strikers in Kenya. Looking back, I never knew I would even live a normal life,” she says.
Her journey reflects not just survival, but a true transformation. While her healing is ongoing, requiring deeper psychosocial support, she is now surrounded by love, structure, and hope. Empowered through sport, play and expression, she is growing into her potential with every leap, every dance, and every smile. Glad’s House continues to walk with her, nurturing her dreams and supporting her healing.
