Advancing Visibility, Justice & Truth for Our Communities

This reporting period marks an important moment in the evolution of the Latinx Police Accountability Network (LPAN). While national conversations on policing and racial justice often overlook Latinx communities, especially those of Mexican origin, we remain grounded in advancing visibility, truth, and accountability. Despite limited resources, we engaged over 150 students, movement leaders, and partners across multiple states, deepening awareness and expanding our growing network.

During presentations at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Metropolitan State University of Denver, students expressed shock upon learning that there is no comprehensive or disaggregated national data tracking police violence and incarceration specific to Latinx communities. One young woman from Metro State shared that this was the first time she had ever seen her community named in conversations about justice and accountability, adding that she now feels a personal responsibility to continue this conversation in her own networks.

In addition to student engagement, we participated in public panels with Latinx organizers and advocates, met with civil society leaders in Mexico to address transnational harm, and presented to partner organizations across the U.S. to expand LPAN’s reach. We also began developing Truthtelling, a new narrative-based project that uplifts the lived experiences of Mexicans impacted by state violence, humanizing data through storytelling, art, and cultural memory work.

We have submitted an application for the JW Innovation Grant and are actively seeking additional funding to sustain LPAN’s growth and fully realize the Truthtelling project. We continue building partnerships with researchers, educators, and cultural workers who share our commitment to narrative justice and data equity.

This project is more than data, it is about dignity. Every conversation, every story, and every relationship reaffirms why LPAN exists. Our communities deserve to be seen, counted, and protected. Our stories deserve to be told. And the truth deserves to be heard, across borders, systems, and generations and we invite you to join us.
