In Medellin, Colombia, Las Chicharras is building a youth-led communications agency where adolescents growing up in contexts of violence, inequality, and limited opportunities can create, question, and be heard. Through art, storytelling, research, and communication, young people explore their realities, develop critical thinking, creativity, empathy, and agency, and turn their ideas into new narratives and possibilities for their futures. Because creating is an act of resistance.
Adolescents in Medellin's Comuna 10 face poverty, inequality, violence, and limited access to cultural and educational opportunities. Their voices are often absent from conversations about their communities and city. They need spaces to explore their potential, create, question, and be heard.
Las Chicharras is building a youth-led communications agency where adolescents use art, storytelling, research, and media to explore their realities, develop their skills, create original content, and share their perspectives with their communities and wider audiences.
We aim to help young people become confident creators and active citizens, while building a lasting youth-led agency that brings new narratives and perspectives into conversations about Medellin and its future.
