Las Tunas ONG is a nonprofit organization in Buenos Aires, Argentina, working to "expand freedoms, develop capabilities and build citizenship". In the face of the coronavirus pandemic and while continuing our usual programs remotely, we increased our effort and added new lines of work to help families in this new, difficult context. We also accompany our 26 team members and teachers to adapt to this new modality.
The current COVID-19 crisis affects everyone, but not in the same way. Many families go through the quarantine with great economic difficulty and they are worried about the future: What will the day after look like? With this in mind we launched new programs and actions to develop capabilities to help them navigate this new context, with a Monitoring, Accompaniment and Early Detection Program, Food Security and Health Education, as well as Economic Development Tools for the day after.
With our new programs we: Provide simple and easy-to-understand communications about COVID-19 and its prevention, for families and neighbourhood residents. Monitor the situation of each family, with special attention to those that might require greater support. Identify if there are problems with access to food and give immediate response. Develop content for proper nutrition. Design contents about finances and connect entrepreneurs with workers.
With our new programs we not only try to prepare and assist families in the community of Las Tunas for what is happening today due to the coronavirus pandemic, but we help them prepare themselves for the new reality they will face once the quarantine is lifted.
