Ukraine is being ravaged by the Russian invasion, and in addition to the physical impact upon Ukrainian children, education is suffering due to some 90% of schools being closed. Children are now not able to continue their studies - either at home or wherever they have found themselves after displacement - and providing them with laptops will assist greatly.
An entire generation is at risk of growing up without a proper education. This has a significant implications for Ukraine's future - both post war and longer term. There is an urgent need to provide laptop computers so that the children can at least learn online from wherever they are sheltering.
Kharkiv International Rotary (KIR) - twin club of Ythan Valley Rotary in Scotland - has a database of these children and the club has identified 12,000 verified laptop applicants. KIR has established a supply line for reconditioned laptops for only $150 each. These laptops have more than adequate facilities for child learning. The supplier is a Ukrainian company, 775.com. KIR will be responsible for liaising with 775.com, managing the contract and looking after the distribution.
Ythan Valley Rotary (Scotland) joined the laptop project in Autumn 2022 and secured funding of $25,000.00. This was sufficient to provide 167 laptops which are currently being provided to children in Ukraine to allow them to continue their education online. This however is a small number compared with the need. We can already see the impact of the laptops we have provided thus far and developing the project will be hugely beneficial to Ukrainian children.
