Tadeo Comes to School

By Sharon Doherty | Project Leader

MARK YOUR CALENDARS - GIVING TUESDAY IS NOVEMBER 28th

"the global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world"

Meet Tadeo, the newest and youngest student at the EEESMA School for the Deaf. At just six years old, Tadeo faces the world with a cochlear implant received at the age of two. However, despite the technological leap, he has struggled to grasp oral language. Fortunately, his forward-thinking mother, a mere 26 years old herself, made the critical decision to enroll him in a school where he could learn the beautiful language of signs.

Presently, Tadeo's means of communication are limited to gestures, such as energetically waving his arms to capture your attention and employing exaggerated facial expressions. Yet, within these constraints, Tadeo emerges as one of the most vibrant and engaging characters you could ever encounter.

Tadeo is not alone in his journey. Alongside four other new primary students who recently joined EEESMA, he faces a challenging path ahead. These children, aged six, seven, and two at eight, confront the difficulties of acquiring language when they should have started around the age of two. They find themselves four years or more behind the optimal language acquisition stage.

But fear not, as we are all committed to overcoming this challenge! Tadeo, with his dedicated teachers, supportive classmates, and the entire school community, is embarking on the exciting journey of learning Mexican Sign Language. Tadeo needs you on his side.

Join us in creating the best possible language acquisition environment for Tadeo and all the students at EEESMA. Your generous contribution on Giving Tuesday, November 28th, to the project "Language Acquisition for Deaf Children in Mexico" https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/language-acquisition-for-deaf-children-in-mexico/ will be eligible for incentive matching funds from GlobalGiving on that day only. This means your donation has the potential to double in size, amplifying its impact and ensuring a brighter future for Tadeo and his friends.

Let's unite to empower these young minds and provide them with the tools they need to communicate, connect, and thrive. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of Tadeo and his fellow students at EEESMA.
