What the Future Holds

By Denice Ryan | Administrator

Ambergris Caye Elementary School continues to grow in leaps and bounds!  This year we have 102 students!  Next year we will be wondering how we will house all the children in the facility as it currently stands.  We know that over the summer we need to make arrangements for a least one other classroom to accomodate our growing student population.

As our population grows our need for more space and land becomes increasingly apparent.  We continue to look at adjacent properties in hopes of an opportunity to purchase another lot for expansion of the school. Our vision is to expand our primary school and add at least four more classrooms in a separate building to house a small high school. By completing this project we will be able to provide a cohesive education from pre-school through high school.

Living in the island community of San Pedro, Belize there is always an issue for parents to find affordable education for their children due to the lack of space.  Often, children cannot be placed in school because there just isn't any room at any of the government subsidized schools, or the parents cannot afford to send their child to one of the private schools on the island.  Ambergris Caye Elementary School is working diligently to try to provide more space and options for the community.

As a community based school, run by community members, we try to keep the tuition affordable so we can be a viable option for more parents.  We are currently in negotiations with the Ministry of Education to provide subsidy for additional children or lower tuitions. Education is the only means for a better life, it is a pathway out of poverty and a stairway to success.  Truely, it does take a village to raise a child and when the village reaches out globally the chances for success increase exponentially.  Please be a part of a child's brighter tomorrow, give generosuly.
