This project aims to acquire land and build a safe space for talented emerging building artists and athletes from Mathare slums. Young people make upto 50% of the population in the slums of Mathare. Inadequate talent centers for youth is a contributor to crime and substance abuse. Over the years talent development center have been a sure way of curbing crime and youth radicalization.We are certain that this center will help bring sanity in the Mathare community.
Mathare slums is home to about 500,000 people who live below the poverty index earning less than 2 USD in a single business day. Of this population 60% consist of young people who live in abject poverty too. The center of excellence that we intend to set up will support 200 youth directly and more than 4,000 youth indirectly. The young people are susceptible to crime, early marriages, substance abuse and youth radicalization. The center will give the youth an alternative to a better life.
We shall provide trainings in photography , performing arts and theory classes for football to our beneficiaries . in the center we shall also host photo exhibition and performing arts festival on a quarterly basis. The trainings and the events that we shall conduct will keep the young people engaged thus reducing the chances of them indulging in uncouth behavior. Young people from the slums of Mathare when engaged in positive initiative they tens to forget about the negative influences.
The following are the effects of the project. Improved skill level among 200 youth in Mathare. Improved livelihood among the 200 youth in Mathare. Increase of participation among youth in artistslic activities. Reduction of youth radicalization and crime in the slums More arts and culture events will take place will take place at the center due availability of space Increased formation of arts and culture organization in Mathare slums Emergence of young models from Mathare slums.
