Qtly Report of La Fondita de Jesus en la Comunidad

By Edwin Edgardo Otero-Cuevas | Director of Development & External Resources

Our dear social investors:

It is wonderful to greet you all on behalf of the members of Corporación La Fondita de Jesús’ family! Hoping you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. We want to keep you up to date of what we have been doing with those most in need during the quarterly period of June to September 2021, always with efforts of the staff of “La Fondita de Jesús en la Comunidad”.

We had the great opportunity to impact the lives of 1,825 non-duplicated people (14% more than the previous reported period) in the following 16 vulnerable communities of San Juan: El Hangar, Villa Clemente, Tratalleres, San Cristóbal Apartments, Plebiscitos, La Inmaculada Elderly Center, Casa Juan Ruiz Vélez Elderly, Condominio Bahía A, La Marina, El Gandul, Shangai, Égida Beatriz Lasalle Elderly, Paseo del Conde, San Sebastián Apartments, Viejo San Juan & Alto del Cabro. Of those, 55% were females and 45% males. In terms of age, 56% of the impacted people were once again 60 to 79. Also, we impacted the community of Fortuna Playa, in the Municipality of Luquillo, at the north side of Puerto Rico. Non-perishable food and protection materials against COVID-19 were distributed among the residents of that community.

Some services continue to be provided face-to-face with the strictest prevention measures, while others were provided on distance, to minimize the risks of infection with COVID-19. Our staff were able to deliver a total of 5,952 services units to the communities, as follows {service (units)}:

  • food (hot meals/lunches [3,171])
  • nutritional supplements (56)
  • in-house referrals (13)
  • external referrals (6)
  • crisis interventions (2)
  • referrals and evaluations for mitigation (12)
  • mitigations follow-up (11)
  • educational materials (787)
  • prevention kits (577)
  • OTC medicine kits (300)
  • COVID-19 tests (18)
  • stress balls (29)
  • emergency grocery bags (677)
  • emergency management bags (14)
  • meetings with community leaders (35)
  • workshops (15)
  • collaborative agreements (2)
  • orientation interventions (17)
  • others (210)

The following themes were developed during workshops with residents among the impacted communities: “Fall prevention”, “Mindfulness”, “Community conflicts management”, “Preparation for a catastrophic event”, “Leaders meetings”, “Creating from sexuality”, “Stress management” & “Gender perspective and violence”.

We continue to provide services to the homeless in our organization. Participants, volunteers, and staff are following the established safety measures.

As always, our priority is to promote the health and safety of all at Corporación La Fondita de Jesús. No Definitely, social investors like you help us to continue with our mission to benefit so many lives.

Thank you, thank you very much for the opportunity you give us consistently! Should you need more information or if you have any questions about this project report, please do not hesitate to contact us at 787-724-4051 Ext. 305 or eotero@lafonditadejesus.org. Thank you!
