By Mauro Bassignana | Technical Manager
A first technical mission took place from February 21st to March 3rd, 2014, to transfer agronomic techniques to the committee of parents engaged in the agricultural activities of the Kubunina School Vegetable Gardens.
During the time spent in Congo, Mauro Bassignana, technical manager of the Kubunina school gardens project, has organized a training session, focused on the transfer of new sustainable agricultural techniques, useful also to fight against pest and diseases, to get the lowest possible environmental impact.
Edouard, the Kubunina local agronomist, has been formed on crop rotation and agroforestry techniques to reach a sustainable exploitation of the ground, without using chemical fertilizers.
School gardens are created near the schools involved in the Kubunina program, for an area ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 square meters, using crops suited to the environment, in order to avoid periodic imports of seeds.
Kubunina vegetables will be sold at local markets, thus ensuring project sustainability and free access to school to the children of the poorest families.
Parents involved were very interested in both theoretical and practical training and they have been shown to be motivated and to have the right willingness in trying to ensure free access to school to their children.
