31 Years of Work in Danger: Help Us Prevent SOCIEVEN from Closing

Project: Solutions for Deafblindness in Venezuela: Weaving a Future of Freedom for Women with Deafblindness

Period: II Partial Report (June – September 2026)

Institution: SOCIEVEN, A.C.

Dear GlobalGiving Members and Generous Donors:

For over three decades, SOCIEVEN has been a beacon of hope and a defender of human rights for one of the most invisible populations: individuals with deafblindness and their families. Today, we reach out to you with heavy hearts and from a place of the most extreme urgency: we are facing an unprecedented financial crisis that seriously threatens to close our foundation.

This second period (June – September 2026) was marked by a sudden and overwhelming tragedy. With immense dedication and a titanic effort, we created "The Echo of the Hands," an ambitious and incredible fundraising initiative where plastic artists, volunteers, and individuals with deafblindness joined their talents to weave and create unique works of art intended to sustain our mission, a project developed with Neri Design Group.

However, the silent auction and the Dinner of the Senses —scheduled between June and July— tragically coincided with the devastating double earthquake that struck Venezuela. The humanitarian emergency paralyzed everything, and the expected funds could not be raised. Today, that double blow leaves us on the verge of institutional collapse.

Impact and Results: What We Have Achieved Against the Tide

Despite the storm and with resources pushed to the limit, our technical team and the SOCIEVEN National Network (RNS) have not stopped, reaching approximately 732 people directly and indirectly. Among the highlights of this period are:

  • 447 direct and indirect supports provided through the SOCIEVEN National Network:
    • 283 humanitarian assistance products: 92 food items, 107 hygiene supplies, 50 basic and pediatric medicines, eye and ear drops, a white cane, and 16 sensory toys.
    • Vital healthcare: Management of specialized consultations and the successful channeling of cataract surgery for an adult woman with deafblindness due to Usher Syndrome Type II at the Dr. Domingo Luciani Hospital.
    • 202 advisories and accompaniments for families, adults, and young people nominated to the First World Camp for Deafblind Youth in Davos.
  • Empowerment and Autonomy (Weaving Program):
    • Organization of weaving sessions and the inspiring public event "Tranquilamente 360°" at the Centro de Arte Los Galpones, proving that textile art is a real path to inclusion and sustainable development for women with deafblindness.
  • Post-Earthquake Humanitarian Response:
    • Assessment of needs for 128 affected users and deployment of aid brigades to La Guaira delivering kits of food, supplies, and medicines.
  • International Training:
    • Successful conclusion of the pre-linguistic communication course with ICEVI Latin America for 20 professionals from 8 countries, coordinating efforts with 40 allied institutions.

The Most Critical Moment: We Need You to Prevent Closure

SOCIEVEN is at a breaking point. Maintaining our structure, the Deafblindness Model House, and the professionals who dedicate their lives to this cause is now a race against time.

We cannot allow 31 years of struggle, dignity, and achievements for deafblindness in Venezuela to be snuffed out by an unforeseen emergency. Today more than ever, your support is vital. Every donation and every share allows us to keep essential programs alive, protect our users, and revitalize fundraising strategies to pull us out of this abyss.

A 31-year legacy is in danger, but we can still save it. Weave a future of freedom with us. Your contribution today is the difference between continuing our work and closing our doors forever. We are counting on you!

Institución: SOCIEVEN, A.C.

Impacto y Resultados: Lo Que Hemos Logrado Contra Marea
