Dear Himalayanlife family, friends and supporters,
You made this happen! We have successfully opened our first Mini school in Ripaar!
The Sherpa-village of Ripaar is the location of the first HimalayanLife Mini-School in the Yangri valley. 16 children are enrolled and are being taught by Mrs Sujata, our fantastically dedicated teacher.
Sujata, the teacher, is facing all kinds of challenges: “In the beginning, I had serious doubts regarding the mental capacity of three of my students. They were 100% unresponsive. Then I realized that they only speak their local Sherpa language and do not have any understanding of Nepalese…”
The 16 students are between 4 and and 14 years old, and the differences in previous schooling are huge. The students are being taught in 2 age groups, but every student essentially has her or his individual education program depending on ability and level.
Meme, the village elder, is the chair of the local advisory committee. Meme is a man with a truly big heart: “I have never had the chance to go to school for even a day in my life. I want my grand-children’s generation to be different. I am proud to tell everyone that my village is beginning to rebuild by paving the way for education. This is the future.”
The next Mini-School is scheduled to open in Brato in May.
We look forward to keeping you posted on the progress of our next Mini School.
From all of us at Himalayanlife, a very BIG thank you!
