We are installing Mini-Schools in the villages of the Yangri Valley. The goal of these schools is tri fold: (1) recommencing the children's schooling and thus simply reintroducing the daily structure and rhythm of school into their lives, (2) preparing the children academically to enter quality schooling within a year, (3) to keep the children from child-labor and positively impact their families and communities. Students are taught by a HimalayanLife teacher, ensuring entry-level knowledge.
Seven months after the Nepal earthquakes help is still hard to come by for the residents of the Yangri valley. People live in makeshift shelters, lacking basic infrastructure such as watersupply, electricity, sanitary installations. Unfortunately, the government is unable to provide the much needed assistance for rebuilding after the catastrophe. The schools throughout the 15 villages are destroyed and remain closed. The children's education and future is put into serious jeopardy.
The Mini-Schools are the key for some 50 children in the villages of the Yangri Valley to a future with education, and thus a future with hope and perspective. In the broadest sense, education is indeed the foundation to positive social transformation and development.
HimalayanLife is working towards setting up the Yangri Academic Center (YAC), a regional center for quality schooling from nursery all the way up to grade 12, preparing students for fur continued academic study and/or life as responsible citizens who make valuable contributions to society.
