Immediately after the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015, HimalayanLife has adopted the area of Yangri for delivering relief and for rebuilding. We have committed to walk with the people of Yangri for the foreseeable future and provide significant and comprehensive assistance with regard to their immediate needs (food, shelter, medical care) as well as with rebuilding homes and infrastructure (drinking water, electricity, bridges, etc).
Given HimalayanLifes focus as a charity to protect, nurture, and educate the children in the Himalayas, the king-pin and long-term effort is in the area of education. Under the slogan of “better than before the quake” we are building a barding school for the area, thus introducing quality education to the valley of Yangri. The school is scheduled to open its doors early in 2017.
However, in the somewhat surprising absence of government assistance and schools, interim solutions are needed – hence the concept of Mini-Schools. The first Mini-School has commenced in the village of Ripaar. 18 students are enrolled and taught by Miss Sujata. Significant progress is being made academically and socially, as the children are inundated into the world of learning.
