During the reporting period, SACOD focused on raising environmental awareness among Indigenous Mbororo women to encourage their children to participate in environmental protection through tree planting, emphasizing the importance of tree planting and the role young people can play in protecting their environment.
The sensitization activities encouraged participants to appreciate trees as essential resources for environmental sustainability, soil protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. The initiative also highlighted the importance of involving Indigenous communities in environmental protection and ensuring that young people contribute to safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
Although the project is still in its preparatory phase, these awareness-raising efforts represent an important step towards building community interest and participation in the planned tree-planting activities.
During the quarter, the campaign received a contribution of US$25 from a community member. This contribution represents an encouraging expression of local solidarity and support for SACOD's environmental conservation efforts.
Although modest, the donation demonstrates the importance of community participation in supporting grassroots environmental initiatives. SACOD remains committed to mobilizing additional resources through GlobalGiving and local partnerships to expand the project's reach and strengthen its long-term impact.
Building on the sensitization activities undertaken, SACOD is now preparing a tree nursery to support the next phase of implementation.
The nursery will provide seedlings for the planned tree-planting activities in 2027. Preparatory work is intended to help ensure that suitable seedlings are available when planting begins and that the initiative can move from awareness-raising to practical environmental action.
SACOD also intends to encourage continued participation by Indigenous Mbororo youth in nursery management, seedling care, tree planting, and subsequent monitoring. These activities will help strengthen young people's sense of environmental responsibility and encourage sustained community involvement in tree conservation.
Like many grassroots environmental initiatives, Kids for Trees depends on sustained financial and community support to translate its objectives into meaningful results.
The limited funding available during the reporting period has made resource mobilization particularly important as SACOD prepares for nursery establishment and the 2027 planting season.
SACOD sincerely thanks the community member who contributed US$25 during this reporting period and appreciates everyone who continues to support the Kids for Trees: Sowing Seeds of Sustainability initiative.
