"Kids for Trees" is a transformative project aimed at empowering 250 conflict affected children aged 7 to 17 years in 5 communities of the Northwest region, Cameroon. These children with disrupted access to education and safe spaces are disempowered and vulnerable, yet hold immense potential for positive change. We will establish 5 tree nurseries where children will nurture seedlings, followed by large scale indigenous and fruit tree planting campaigns in degraded areas.
Here in Bamenda, Northwest Region, Cameroon, our beautiful landscapes are under threat facing a critical and accelerating challenge: widespread environmental degradation, specifically rampant deforestation, severely exacerbated by the ongoing armed conflict. The crisis is manifesting as a direct threat to daily survival and long-term sustainability.
The "kids for Trees" project directly tackles the intertwined challenges of environmental degradation and the psychosocial impact of conflict in Bamenda. To combat deforestation, we will establish 05 community based tree nurseries where children will actively participate in nurturing thousands of indigenous seedlings. This hands-on engagement will culminate in large-scale tree planting campaigns in critical degraded areas including deforested hillsides and vital water catchment zones.
The "Kid's for Trees" project will empower 250 children and youth. Environmentally, it will lead to regenerative forest cover, reduce destructive landslides, reduce soil erosion, boost water security, and foster biodiversity, ultimately improving agricultural productivity and community health. Socially, it will cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious and resilient citizens in Bamenda, equipped with practical skills and a profound connection to their environment.
