Kidney donation is the best chance of survival for patients with chronic kidney disease. Donor Cafes are peer-to-peer meetings between patients, donors and future donors to provide practical information, promote organ donation & identify their specific needs (support, guides, etc.). In addition, they help to socialize people affected by the disease, restoring their confidence and control over their own lives, and enabling them to reach out to others (relatives, caregivers, employers, ...).
Chronic kidney disease will soon be the 5th leading cause of death in the world, and kidney donation is the best chance of survival for patients in the bypass phase. A 40-year-old woman who receives a kidney transplant can double her life expectancy. Kidney transplants also enable patients to live an almost normal life, keep their jobs, go on vacation with their children... However, there is a shortage of donors, and future donors (often relatives) are afraid and not sufficiently informed.
-Share real-life experience in all its richness (psychological, medical, social, etc.) -Free the expression of doubts and fears, in a caring and understanding environment. -Promote living kidney donation, a priority -Sharing views on life's journey, creating social links, as the disease is extremely isolating (even more so in the post-covid period - they are immunocompromised). - Report on the concrete needs and expectations of participants, so as to build new, adapted projects
