The first phase of Khokana Earthquake Debris Removal Initiative (KEDRIN) has completed. Besides minor cases, sixty one houses were either partially or completely demolished in the first phase of the initiative.

The site work of the first phase was started on the 25th of the April, 2016 and took longer than expected due to a start of pre-monsoon; it nearly took 1.5 months to demolish and clear the debris of sixty one plus houses. The activity was done with full participation from beneficiary and the community on the supervision of Khokana Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Committee (KRRC). A back-hoe loader and the tippers were hired to help in the demolition work. The beneficiary and the machine operators worked hand in hand to achieve this result.

KRRC had identified the cluster/pockets (wards) according to the priority criterion: they have chosen the most vulnerable houses inside the town, damaged and most susceptible to falling down. Majority were theses houses were located at wards 6, 7 and 8. Among the selected, some were demolished partially and some were demolished in consultation with and need of the beneficiary. About 350 people benefited from the first phase of demolition work directly. In addition it has also indirectly benefited larger population, the community people and the regular commuters.

The above work was possible only with the support received from GG and the well wishers of ECCA. Khokana Community and ECCA are very grateful to the people who have heartily supported and continuously supporting the cause. It is my great pleasure to volunteer this initiative and would like to appeal for more help to rebuilding Khokana.
