September welcomed the students in Khe Sanh back to school. These ethnic minority children are eager to start the new school year after two months of enjoyment and relaxation..
GCSF Vietnam is happy to inform you that there have been more than 800 students from Khe Sanh Primary School, Pa Nho Satellite School and Ban 1 Satellite School enjoying the library gifts within our Mobile Library program in Vietnam since the program started in 2012. Over 2000 books are circulated among the students on a monthly basis. Five computers in the main Library at Khe Sanh Primary School are busily used by more than 730 students and 40 teachers.
Khe Sanh Primary School has just held its new school year event for the 2016-2017 school year on the 5th of September, 2016. In this new school year, 135 new students, out of 750 students of the school, are going to have an opportunity to improve their knowledge with the Library. In this new school year event, 46 uniform clothes were given to 46 new ethnic minority students in first grade as a gift from GCSF's friends. This is a meaningful gift for these poor students just entering school life. Meanwhile, in Ban 1 Village School, the current 56 ethnic minority students are continuing enjoying their reading habit in their new library installed by GCSF Vietnam last year.
"I'm excited with the new school year. Compared with the total number of students last year, there are 15 more this year. There will be lots of work for our librarian but I believe she loves to see the students using the books and computers there", shared Ms. Huong, the School Principal.
Meanwhile, in the neighborhood, more than 400 students from Secondary school and High School of Huong Phung commune have to travel 10 miles from home to have their schooling. They have plenty of time in the break between morning session and afternoon session but have nothing to do. A library would be both an opportunity for extra learning and a solution for useful break-time use for these ethnic minority students.
"My students have a long lunch break and after-class break, they just sit there chatting. Some of the boys and girls even start dating. Just because they have nothing to do. We don't have a library to attract them into reading and sharing good information. We have some fund but it is not enough for setting up a proper library. Thus, we are looking forward to extra support to establish one for our students", shared Mr. Cong, Principal of Huong Phung Middle School.
To students from cities, books and computers are sometimes taken for granted. But for these tribal students living in a remote, mountainous area, they are a new channel of education and an opportunity to gain more knowledge and to enjoy a healthy leisure activity. Thus, GCSF Vietnam would like to encourage your support to complete this meaningful mission for the poor tribal students living near Khe Sanh.
