Dear GlobalGiving Friends,
Happy New Year!
On behalf of the GCSF team in Vietnam, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year and pass on news from our little friends of Khe Sanh.
The 2nd phase of this project has brought a computer, a large reading table for 10 students, 10 reading lamps, 4 outdoor reading benches, a cassette/CD player, 4 large bookshelves and many new books to the Pa Nho Satellite Branch of the Khe Sanh Primary School.
More than 130 young children (including over 100 from ethnic minority tribes) have benefited from this library addition since last month. The students now have immediate access to books since a bookshelf has been installed in each classroom. The cassette/CD Player has been particularly useful for learning correct pronunciation of both English and Vietnamese words for tribal children who primarily speak a Khmer-based dialect at home. This is a tremendous boost for these disadvantaged students.
“I love the bookshelf so much because it is colorful and has many books. I like reading the picture books. And I also love the CD player. I thought it was for playing music but you can also study English,” shared nine-year-old Dinh with a shy smile.
As we enter 2015, our goal remains to reach out to an additional 400 tribal children in a nearby commune. New books for the new year will be a precious gift to poor children of western Quang Tri Province. Thank you for being a key player in helping dreams come true through your generous contributions.
Chuc Mung Nam Moi!
Sincerely,
Nguyen Xuan Tam and the GCSF team in Vietnam
