Fresh Talent

By Ken | Intern

Ken, Hot Sun Foundation intern
Ken, Hot Sun Foundation intern

Name: Ken

Age: 24 years old

When did you become interested in film making?

I developed interest in film making as a student. The creation process was very fascinating to me. I used to admire people who carry around cameras.

Future Plans

I hope to collaborate with other passionate film makers across the African continent and create films that tell the African stories.

Activities that you have done with Hot Sun Foundation

All throughout my internship, I have been the camera assistant to our head cinematographer for all our video shoots.

How have you benefited from these activities

This experience has significantly contributed to my self esteem as a film maker and even as a student. I have learnt so much about film making over the past few months which has helped me see things in a different perspective. I’ve gotten to learn what works and what doesn’t in terms of planning shoots and production processes. I have also gained the confidence to start my own projects and approach other film makers to consider collaborations.

Why should young filmmakers care about Hot Sun Foundation

At Hot Sun Foundation, young filmmakers get a hands-on experience. On the second week of my internship, I got the opportunity to work with a crew visiting from Belgium. I was tasked with helping them through the production process. The experience was really good because I also got the opportunity to learn from them. I got to learn new ways of shooting and doing things with the camera. Hot Sun Foundation highly focuses on giving their trainees and interns a good learning experience.

Why should people donate to Hot Sun Foundation?

Hot Sun Foundation nurtures fresh talents in the Kenyan film industry e.g. through their workshops, which they don’t charge. They are giving opportunities to people like me through training and internships which really exposes young minds to the industry and new ideas of filming. They create a very good platform for someone to start their career.
