Is there something you care about so much that you think about it every day?
That's me and Hot Sun Foundation.
Having been active in many organizations around the world, working for peace and human rights, I chose to work with Hot Sun Foundation as a volunteer for the past six years.
Why?
The power of youth and the power of video.
The majority of people in Sub Saharan Africa live in urban slums. The majority of the people in the slums are under 25 years of age. The youth are connected with change and diversity through mobile phones, internet and the dynamism of living in the slums with people from many tribes.
Through video, young people share their ideas, dreams and challenges with each other as well as with communities far away. Youth are organizing to ensure peaceful elections in Kenya in March 2013.
At Hot Sun Foundation we refer to our short films as stories that travel far.
Hot Sun Foundation offers filmmaking training to youth who dream of making videos, but have no access to equipment or training.
Our graduates are making a difference - winning awards, participating in film festivals, and working in the Kenyan film industry. Our graduates are changing attitudes about what youth from urban slums in East Africa can accomplish.
If you make a contribution in the month of February (my birthday month) of $60 or more, I will send you a DVD of short films from Hot Sun Foundation.
If you sign up for a monthly ongoing contribution of $20 or more, I will send you the entire package of four DVDs, Latest from Kibera. Monthly contributions are a big help to us.
Whatever you can give will be most welcome.
