GOT MATAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP (GMCDG)
QUARTERLY COMMUNITY HOUSING PROGRAMME REPORT
Reporting Period: July–September 2026
Programme: Community Housing Programme
Location: Got Matar Village, East Yimbo Location, Siaya County, Kenya
1. Programme Overview
The Got Matar Community Development Group (GMCDG) remains committed to improving the living conditions of vulnerable households through its Community Housing Programme. The initiative seeks to renovate and upgrade 30 homes for disadvantaged rural families over a three-year period, providing safe and decent shelter to beneficiaries while creating practical skills-development opportunities for students at the Got Matar Institute of Technology (IoT).
The programme brings together community development and technical training, enabling students and staff to apply their skills in real-life construction projects while making a meaningful contribution to the welfare of vulnerable families.
2. Progress During the Quarter
During the reporting quarter, GMCDG continued to mobilize resources towards the construction of the seventh house under the programme. However, despite ongoing efforts, the organization has not been able to raise sufficient funds to commence construction.
Consequently, the seventh house has remained pending for the past three months. This delay reflects the financial challenges facing the programme rather than a lack of commitment to its objectives. GMCDG recognizes the urgent housing needs of vulnerable households within the community and remains determined to resume implementation as soon as adequate resources become available.
The organization continues to draw encouragement from the progress achieved through the first six houses, including the home of Mrs. Elizabeth, a 57-year-old widow in Got Matar Village who was selected as the sixth beneficiary.
3. Challenges and Their Impact
The principal challenge during this quarter has been inadequate funding. The construction of safe and durable homes requires resources for building materials, skilled labour, transportation and essential finishing works. Without sufficient financial support, it has not been possible to begin the seventh house.
The delay has affected the programme's implementation schedule and postponed assistance to the next vulnerable household awaiting support. It has also limited opportunities for students at Got Matar Institute of Technology to participate in the next practical construction project.
GMCDG remains mindful that, behind every proposed house, there is a family in need of secure shelter, dignity and improved living conditions.
4. Priorities for the Next Quarter
During the next quarter, GMCDG will intensify its resource-mobilization efforts and engage existing and prospective donors and partners to secure the funding required to commence the seventh house.
Our immediate priorities are to:
5. An Appeal for Continued Donor Support
We sincerely appreciate the generosity of our donors and partners whose support has made it possible to improve the homes and living conditions of six vulnerable families under this initiative.
Although progress has temporarily slowed, our commitment to the programme remains firm. We believe that every family deserves a safe place to call home, and we remain determined to continue working towards our goal of improving 30 homes over three years.
We therefore appeal to our existing and prospective donors, partners and well-wishers to support the construction of the seventh house. Your contribution, whether financial or in the form of building materials and other essential resources, will help us overcome the current funding gap and extend this life-changing intervention to another deserving family.
Together, we can turn the present challenge into an opportunity to renew hope, restore dignity and build a safer future for vulnerable households in Got Matar and the surrounding community.
Thank you for standing with Got Matar Community Development Group and the families we serve.
