Global Giving Report February 2013
I can’t believe another 3 months has passed since I last wrote. What an amazing and challenging time we have had. With the Global Financial Crisis gripping not only individuals and multi conglomerates but nations it has been very satisfying to see that our donations have stayed stable in these times. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your commitment and I trust that you will continue to support the work that we are doing and the lives we are changing by partnering with us in Building Tomorrow Today.
We have restarted the Food For Life project in November 2012 to assist with poverty alleviation, food security and income generating projects with another 350 children over the course of this coming year. Since November we have been struggling with flooding rain which has washed away many homes and unfortunately some lives. The 25% of the project will have to start again in February due to the rains washing the seeds away or the seeds rotting in the ground but the children are of such good cheer that they are not put off by the extra work required.
Mark McNamara and Katie Dee the cycling Koala arrived in Cape Town on the 25th of November after an epic 11months and 8,000kms in the saddle. What an achievement and a testimony to good will from people you don’t know. This journey has been followed by all the adults and children of Keep The Dream196 who have been praying for his safety and also by Marks students back at Mercedes College in Adelaide. Mark & Katie Dee have now safely arrived back in Australia and Katie Dee is going to represent KTD196 at the Adelaide Fringe Festival a world renowned Arts Festival.
We have recently formed a partnership with World Vision, an international donor organization. KTD196 will be providing training services and our Lifeskills Program to help develop World Visions holistic response to children’s needs.
“Being a scout has had a huge impact on my life because it changed the way I think, the way I look at people and the way I look at myself. Being a Scout is not about what you do when you are with other Scouts but it becomes part of your lifestyle. Joining Scouts is a decision that one makes because you want to change for the good. Scouts change us in different ways: firstly, you gain confidence. Secondly, you learn how to interact with different people and thirdly you can discover your abilities. Join Scouts and your life will change forever.“ - Khanyisa Mabuza 1st Shiluvane Scouts
“Scouting is a life changer-at first when scouting was introduced to me, it was a very new and different thing. Times went by and I started to realize that it was a very important part of my life. Scouting not only gave me the space to expand and realize my abilities but it also moulded my abilities and trained me on how to use them. With the help of all our Akela's (including Zabe and Louise) scouting also open up my eyes to seeing the potential that I possess and how to go about unlocking it. The most important part about scouting is that it never concentrates on raising followers but on raising leaders that go out and be good leaders wherever they go, so joining scouts means joining a family of good leaders. The skills that are acquired through scouting always become handy in daily living so being a scout definitely brings change in one's life and how you can face everyday challenges. Scouting is definitely a life changer :-).” - Nhlanhla Khosa 1st Mavele Scout Troop.
Thank you again to all our supporters and partners for your ongoing commitment and help, I trust this newsletter has been informative and interesting and if you want to know anything more please don’t hesitate to email me on keepthedream196@gmail.com
Blessings, Louise Batty
