Dear Friend of Veterans On the Rise,
We have been doing an aweful lot to help veterans move forward with their lives and end their times in homelessness. In so doing as we address their mental health issues we also address the scourge of veteran suicide. We've raised $1,000 so far and we know you care about ending veteran suicides. We would like to connect with you to get your support for our work to complete the campaign.
In October, we hosted a pumpkin painting competion for veterans to display their art skills. Throughout the month of November we have been taking veterans to locations around town to enjoy discussions on military history and to talk about policy matters that impact their lives. We are also hosting weekly events that satisfy the veteran's needs for employment and financial wellness. We believe that if the holistic needs of a veteran are met, they will be more likely to maintain stable housing and to avoid mental health outcomes that slow their ability to live long satisfying lives.
On November 10th, VOTR hosted a donation drive that resulted in 40 care packages being produced by Divine Love Baptist Church along with a low country cuisine breakfast and disucssion about employment and mental health facilitated by Macedonia Baptist Church, and a painting exercise to celebrate Veterans Day and spruce up the rooms of a few veteran residents thanks to the kind support of consultants from Deloitte Consulting. This event day resulted in 155 service hours, performed by 25 volunteers and our staff over a four hour period.
This week alone, we are hosting three Thanksgiving Dinners for veteran residents. Next week we are hosting a Stand Down on Nov 27th to assist veterans in dealing with their housing challenges and employment issues, and mental health adjustments. We thank you in advance for supporting our Keeping Veterans Rising Campaign! If you have questions about our work feel free to email us at info@vetsontherise.org
Looking forward to staying connect with you hear at Veterans On the Rise!
Best ahead,
Melanie Avery
