The purchase of this campaign is to raise funds for events and activities to help veterans avoid suicide. We are helping veterans to end their homelessness at Veterans On the Rise a 501(c)3 that serves homeless veterans and veteran families. Many of the veterans we serve have mental health challenges and some have considered suicide. We ask the public to take a small video of themselves doing an ice-bucket challenge to show their support for the work we are doing to end veteran suicides.
20 veterans with mental health challenges are committing suicide every day. We are doing our best at veterans on the rise to ensure that the veterans we serve, their families and friend, and our staff who are veterans do not become a part of these statistics. We believe that by funding movie nights, game nights, art, integrative health and cultural events as well as peer group sessions to address challenges faced by veterans who are on the path to recovery.
This project will help Veterans On the Rise to host more events that will help veterans build their dignity and embrace their lives as they work to reconnect with the community and stabilize the housing.
In the long run, we hope to build a strong cohort of veterans who will lean on each other for support, to embrace low-cost activities available to them in the metropolitan area that will help them to focus on building lives that are balanced, safe, stable, and healthy. We hope to encourage these veterans to get involved in their communities, to register to vote and to build habits that lift up their self-esteem.
