Forty adults, all of whom live with a physical disability, call the Ann Harding Cheshire Home their Home. They live here full-time, they eat here, they sleep here, they bathe here, they get cared for here, this is quite simply their Home. Many of these 40 people have lived here for the greater portion of their lives. This is the only Home they have known for such a long time. Most of them are here due to a trauma, which caused their Disability, so their lives literally changed in an instant.
Our biggest problem currently is the worsening financial situation in South Africa, and the costs of running a Home for 40 adults with disabilities. We are in the business of caring for people, which means looking after their most basic needs. This requires 24-hour care, which costs money. Unfortunately, these costs - such as salaries for Caregivers, electricity and water, food, cleaning and laundry, security etc, -are all vital to the wellbeing of our Residents, but are almost impossible to get
By receiving donations towards these vital running costs, we can ensure the sustainability of forty people's Home. Recurrent donations are the most sustainable option for us, but once-off donations will also make a massive difference.
The potential long-term impact will mean that we can continue to run our Home, while working on sustainable projects for the future. These projects have already been started, we run two very successful Charity Shops, we employ a full-time fundraiser and we are building individual living cottages to ensure a sustainable income for the Home long term.
