The project will support out-of-school children in Nasarawa State Nigeria whose education has been disrupted by poverty, child labour and other barriers. By helping them return to school with learning materials, mentorship and family support, the project will keep them learning, reduce dropout and give them a stronger chance at a better future.
The project addresses the growing number of children excluded from education in Nasarawa State. In Nasarawa, 26% of primary school age children, 25% of junior secondary school age children and 31% of senior secondary school age children are out of school. Poverty, child labour, distance, early marriage and weak support systems continue to drive exclusion.
The project will identify out of school children through community mapping and enrollment drives, connect them to schools, and remove barriers such as school costs and limited learning materials. Mentorship, parental engagement and attendance tracking will provide sustained support, helping children across primary and secondary levels enroll, remain in school and improve their learning.
The project will contribute to a sustained reduction in out of school children in Nasarawa State by improving enrollment, retention and learning outcomes. Over time, children will have better opportunities for further education and employment, while stronger family, school and community support systems can help prevent dropout and reduce child labour and early marriage.
