Since its founding in 2014, UP Zambia has reached out to correctional facilities across Zambia to support children in custody. With temperatures that drop down to as low as 2C/34F, keeping warm through a long night in a cell is difficult. This year, UP Zambia will go to 9 facilities across 4 provinces. We need your help to provide warm clothing toiletries, hot meals, and drinks to over 500 children to keep them warm this cold season. Our outreach brings essential items, celebration, and hope.
12 years ago, friends visiting Kamwala Remand, now Lusaka Remand Correctional Facility, with 50 blankets sparked a movement aiding thousands of children in the child justice system. Grateful children said, "Thank you for coming. Tonight will be warm. Tonight we will talk about being treated like human beings. Please do not forget about us." As winter sets in across Zambia, the cold nights are especially harsh for children in detention, causing physical discomfort and psychological strain.
Your donation will provide children with warm clothing (hoodie, cap, socks) Hygiene essentials (soap, tooth brush, tooth paste, lotion), and a a hot meal this cold season. This contribution can bring warmth and comfort and show these children that they are not forgotten.
Your support goes beyond providing children with legal and social services . It reinforces the mission of UP Zambia that every child in conflict with the law is seen, heard and given a fair chance at justice and rehabilitation.
