Christmas is a difficult time to be separate from family, UP Zambia carries out special celebrations with teens in custody during this period, meeting critical needs and providing Christmas meals and activities. In 2024, we hope to celebrate with over 400 children in Lusaka, Livingstone and Katombora . This Christmas we hope to provide each individual child with a gift box with hygiene essentials, exercise books, pens and clothing. We will also provide a Christmas meal and cake.
Ten years ago, friends visiting Kamwala Remand, now Lusaka Remand Correctional Facility, with 50 blankets sparked a movement aiding thousands of children in the child justice system. Grateful children said, "Thank you for coming. Tonight will be warm. Tonight we will talk about being treated like human beings. Please do not forget about us." As winter sets in across Zambia, the cold nights are especially harsh for children in detention, causing physical discomfort and psychological strain.
A donation of $10 can provide a blanket, a pair of socks and a hoodie for 1 child. This small contribution can bring comfort and show these children that they are not forgotten.
Your support goes beyond providing children with legal and social services . It reinforces the mission of UP Zambia that every child in conflict with the law is seen, heard and given a fair chance at justice and rehabilitation.
