Baylor Law students and UP Zambia visit Mwembeshi
Baylor Law students and UP Zambia visit Mwembeshi

We are delighted to share highlights from our recent Cold Season Campaign visit to Mwembeshi Remand Correctional Facility on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, where we spent time with 45 children, including both Zambian and migrant children. This visit formed part of our annual activities to commemorate UP Zambia’s 11th Anniversary, a tradition that began in 2014 with a simple act of donating blankets to children in custody.

This year’s campaign was made possible through the generous support of the Baylor Law School students, who raised funds through the GlobalGiving platform. Their contributions allowed us to provide essential cold season supplies such as hoodies, socks, head socks, and hygiene items bringing warmth, and dignity to the children during this chilly time of year.

One of the most powerful moments was witnessing the children express themselves through moving sketches that shared their cultural identities and personal migration journeys. We ended the day with joyful music, dancing, and the sharing of Ethiopian cuisine, creating an unforgettable celebration of unity, resilience, and cultural appreciation.

On the 26th of June we also commemorated UP Zambia’s birthday that was slated for 28th June at Lusaka Remand Correctional Facility, where our journey began. To honor our tradition, we distributed gift packs filled with warm clothing and hygiene essentials, thanks to you and our local donors for their generous donations.

Our Executive Director, Sara Larios, reflected with the boys on UP Zambia’s roots at Lusaka Remand and emphasized how returning to the facility every year from 2014 is a powerful reminder of UP Zambia’s mission to stand with children in conflict with the law and ensure they are not forgotten.

Our Remember me this winter campaign is not over yet. We are preparing for upcoming visits to Katombora Child Reformatory School and Nakambala Child Approved School, where we will continue delivering warm clothing and hygiene essentials to children in custody.

We are incredibly grateful for your partnership. Your support is not just a donation it is a statement of belief in the potential and worth of every child we reach. We hope you will continue to walk with us in the coming year, as we grow this campaign and deepen its impact.
