In our last update to you, we were excited to share the news that our study centre was ready to open its doors. 24 hours later, a devastating earthquake struck Morocco.
We are forever grateful that our staff and their families are all safe. Unfortunately, the schools in Asni and surrounding villages suffered serious damage and many will need to be demolished. Once again, education has been disrupted for secondary school students during a critical exam period and our team has been busy delivering school supplies to pupils who have been temporarily relocated.
The study centre needed urgent structural repairs and much of the equipment inside was damaged under the rubble. Thanks to the support of people like yourself, we have been able to move quickly. Following a technical survey, we made a start on the extensive repairs needed to restore the study centre and major works inside the building are now fully underway.
Whilst knocking through one of the damaged walls, we found that by adding two new large windows, we could bring in more natural light with views across to the valley. We have installed CCTV throughout the building as part of the electrical rewiring.
We have our eyes on a piece of land opposite the centre which could be transformed into a breakout area to include basketball - watch this space!
If one thing is certain, our mission to rebuild and serve the students of Asni is unwavering and we will build the centre back even better than it was before.
Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2024.
