Dear Donors,
A girl should not have to leave school because her family cannot afford a uniform, books, school fees or menstrual pads.
Yet for many girls across Nigeria, this is still the reality.
Recent UNICEF figures show that more than 10 million Nigerian children are currently out of school. Girls face added barriers, with poverty, insecurity and social pressures keeping many away from the classroom. In northern Nigeria, female school attendance remains much lower than it should be.
For a girl from a poor family, a small financial problem can become the reason she stops going to school.
She may begin missing classes because she has no school uniform.
She may stay home because her family cannot afford books.
She may miss several days each month because she cannot afford menstrual pads.
And when these absences continue, returning to school can become harder.
There is also the fear of what may happen when a girl is no longer in school. UNICEF reports that one in three girls in Nigeria marries before the age of 18. Poverty and limited access to education can make girls more exposed to child marriage and early pregnancy.
But we have also seen what happens when girls are given the support they need to remain in school.
A girl with her school fees paid can return to class.
A girl with books can study at home.
A girl with menstrual pads can attend school during her period without having to stay behind.
A girl who receives a uniform can walk into her classroom with confidence instead of staying home because she cannot afford one.
Keep HER in School will support girls from low-income families with school fees, uniforms, books, school bags, learning materials and menstrual pads.
We will work with schools and families to identify girls who are at risk of leaving school and provide the support they need to continue. We will also support girls who have already dropped out to return to the classroom.
There are girls who still dream of becoming doctors, teachers, nurses, lawyers, engineers and business owners.
Their dreams should not end because their parents cannot afford the next school bill.
Your support can help keep a girl in school.
You can help provide the books she needs.
You can help provide the menstrual pads she needs.
You can help her return to class.
And you can help her stay there long enough to complete her education.
Please consider supporting this project and share it with your friends, family, schools, churches, community groups and anyone who may wish to help a girl continue her education.
Keep HER in school. Keep her dreams alive.
Thank you for standing with girls who simply need a chance to continue learning.
