Many children in Nigeria have little or no information about Ebola and how it spreads. During outbreaks, fear, misinformation, and poor hygiene practices can place children and their families at risk. This project will provide Ebola prevention education, hygiene awareness sessions, and safety materials for children in underserved communities and schools. The program will help children learn simple ways to stay safe and reduce the spread of infection.
Nigeria recorded 20 Ebola cases and 8 deaths during the 2014 outbreak. Today, as of May 15, 2026, new Ebola outbreaks in Congo and Uganda continue to raise concern across Africa. With at least 131 deaths and more than 500 reported cases, health experts warn of a possible public health emergency. Many children in Nigeria still lack proper Ebola prevention knowledge. This project will educate children on hygiene, outbreak safety, and Ebola prevention methods.
This project will provide Ebola prevention education for children in schools and underserved communities across Nigeria. Through health talks, hygiene demonstrations, printed awareness materials, and community outreach, children will learn how Ebola spreads and how to protect themselves and their families. The project will also promote handwashing and early reporting of suspected symptoms during outbreaks.
Children reached through this project will gain lasting knowledge about Ebola prevention, hygiene, and outbreak safety that can help reduce fear, misinformation, and disease spread in their communities. Schools and families will become more prepared during future outbreaks, while early health education can help build safer habits and improve public health awareness among the next generation.
