Summary

This project protects vulnerable children from the risks of recurring droughts by combining school mentorship, digital safety programs, and community advocacy. In regions facing severe climate shocks, children especially girls face heightened protection risks, abuse, and school dropouts. By establishing safe spaces, mentoring children, and promoting child rights within schools and communities, we ensure every child stays safe, supported, and empowered to learn and thrive.

Challenge

In vulnerable communities across Turkana, children face severe protection risks driven by recurring climate shocks and socioeconomic hardships. When families struggle for basic survival, children are increasingly exposed to exploitation, abuse, and neglect. The lack of formal child protection mechanisms, inadequate guidance, and a shortage of basic learning materials leave students vulnerable. Without safe spaces and active support systems, countless children are pushed out of school.

Solution

This project addresses these critical vulnerabilities by establishing structured child protection sessions, school mentorship programs, and safe spaces within communities. By delivering essential learning stationery, educational books, and dignity packages for both boys and girls, the initiative removes material barriers to attendance. The specialized training for local mentors, teachers, and child protection committees creates a robust, community-led safety that safeguards children from abuse.

Long-Term Impact

This project will transform children's lives by building a community-led safety net against abuse and exploitation. Providing stationery, books, and dignity packages removes material barriers to attendance. Meanwhile, structured protection sessions, mentorship programs, and specialized training for teachers and child protection committees create safe, resilient environments where children can thrive and remain in school.
