Back to School!

By Deborah Kimathi | Executive Director

When schools closed in March 2020, our amazing team immediately invested their combined passion, expertise, and experience into finding solutions for our school partners including teachers, learners and their families.  Leaders of Learning was designed to equip 560 school leaders to keep 10,773 children safe & learning and we are excited to share our midline Report with you for your perusal.
The report shares that, as a result of our support,
  • 98% of our school leaders report having gained new competencies
  • 97% of parents are now equipped to support learning at home
  • 94% of households now have a routine that schedules time for daily learning
  • Parents are spending more time supporting their children's learning, and in turn, children are spending more time studying
  • Anxiety levels amongst parents and children have dropped.
  • Provision of learning resources have curbed learning losses, with student performance in literacy and numeracy remaining steady
We are super excited by these results, and the report highlights lessons learned that we intend to apply in 2021 to keep children learning, keep parents engaged in supporting their learning, and to continue to strengthen the capacity of teachers and school leaders.
With the start of a new year, children in Kenya are returning to school this January.  Whilst there is some anxiety, most families are excited to see schools reopened.  Dignitas is actively supporting schools to reopen safely, and supporting school leaders to help bridge learning and well-being gaps so that all children can thrive and succeed in 2021.
