For just $5, you can keep a girl in school. In Ethiopia's rural Sodo Gurage School District, 1,850 adolescent girls are at risk of missing up to 25% of the school year simply because they lack access to menstrual hygiene supplies. Many eventually drop out entirely. The Genanaw Foundation is working closely with the district to provide eco-friendly, reusable kits that allow every girl to manage her health safely and confidently - and stay in class. One kit. One girl. One future..
In Ethiopia's Sodo Gurage School District, 1,850 girls lack access to menstrual hygiene supplies. As a result, many miss up to a week of school each month-nearly a quarter of the academic year. Falling behind often leads to dropping out, limiting opportunities for education, employment, and independence. Without support, this cycle of inequality will continue to affect an entire generation of girls.
The Genanaw Foundation, with the Sodo Gurage School District, will provide every girl with a reusable hygiene kit that lasts up to three years. Distributed through schools with training, these kits ensure 1,850 girls can attend class every day of the month. The result: higher attendance, reduced dropout, and a generation of girls empowered to complete their education.
By removing a simple barrier, this project helps 1,850 girls stay in school, complete their education, and pursue brighter futures. Educated girls are more likely to graduate, delay early marriage, earn higher incomes, and uplift their families. Over time, the entire Sodo Gurage district benefits from a generation of empowered young women who contribute to stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
