At Teach For Uganda, every Fellow in the classroom represents a spark of hope for children in underserved communities. This year alone, 314 Fellows (102 men and 212 women) are teaching in some of Uganda’s most under-resourced schools, reaching thousands of learners who might otherwise fall behind.
One of them is Mary, a young science graduate placed in a rural primary school in Kayunga District. When she first arrived, she found that her pupils struggled to read basic instructions in their textbooks. Instead of giving up, she began a lunchtime reading club, gathering pupils under a mango tree with storybooks and phonics games. Today, her learners read aloud with pride and curiosity, and even the teachers at the school have joined in to learn new reading techniques from her.
Stories like Mary’s remind us why the “Keep a Fellow in the Classroom” campaign matters so much. Each Fellow receives training, mentorship, and materials that allow them to stay committed to teaching despite difficult conditions, from overcrowded classrooms to limited resources. Though this campaign has yet to attract donations, our Fellows continue to create daily impact, proving that dedication and love for learning can transform futures.
Your support will help ensure that every child, no matter where they are born, is taught by a passionate and well-supported teacher.
