Claire had lost hope for ever joining high school after her mother failed to raise money for school fees and personal effects required to join school. Her mother had struggled to take her through primary school following the death of her father when Claire was just 4. The mother of three had no job and hawked fruits in the village to feed her family and pay rent. The exorbitant amounts needed for high school was nothing she could afford.
Today, however, Claire is in school with her peers and she believes her dream of becoming an architect is within reach thanks to the scholarship she got from Mutuini Hope & Development Project, better known as Mutuini Hope Centre.
The founders of Mutuini Hope Centre dream of the day when every child born in the Mutuini community will go to school regardless of the situation they are born in. It is for this reason that we endeavour to take as many children as we can to school in pursuit of that dream.
At the start of the year, we had hoped to enroll up to 200 children in school that we had identified as most needy. We entered our project in GlobalGiving to see if this would be possible given the fact that we have no resources of our own and wholly depend on well-wishers. Our target budget for a year was $50,000, so far we have received $8829 including donations and bonuses.
For children from poor families, the number one reason why they do not stay in school if enrolled is lack of food. Knowing this very well, we used a good portion of the money to ensure there is enough food for the children in our programme. Every day, our children get all the important meals of the day at our centre before they go home. We are benefiting up to 150 people with meals.
Secondly, the donation has also enabled us to enroll children in school and retain those who were already in school. Because of you, we have managed to assist 108 children with school fees and school essentials.
With your continued support, we believe we are going to support many more children with meals and schooling. Our children and staff are happy and we are all praying for your safe keeping and blessings.
Let's keep together.
