The Diepsloot community school-based outreach project exists to educates, raises awareness about social ills. Offers skills development as well as problem-solving solutions to over 1000 school girls to date. The BEAR Foundations secondary school activities enable girls to exercise their potential and explore options to better improve their lifestyle and to help them focus and complete school through t Which in turn helps to fight against the challenges of poverty, teenage pregnancy, and HIV/Aids
Due to various social ills, insufficient funds, resources and lack of knowledge, thousands of women and girls from the underprivileged community of Diepsloot face challenges that prevent them from striking a balance of personal progress. The frustration leads to domestic violence, women depending on men as sole breadwinners and girls falling prey to sugar daddy's for money in exchange for unprotected sex that results in contracting HIV/Aids or unwanted pregnancy.
The programme educates the girl-child at school level whilst training the young women out of school on skills development to help them acquire jobs for sustainable livelihoods. Girls in school engage in activities related to problem-solving, economic empowerment and mentorship. Providing career guidance, a scholarship intervention for further education. We train women in communication skills and computer skills.
The project will educate 5 000 girls a year, train 300 women a year enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and be able to provide for their family's health and well-being.
