Transmitting good health across schools

February distribution of hand washing resources
February distribution of hand washing resources

Thank you for supporting school children to stay safe from COVID-19.

February has been all about distribution of soap, water containers, posters and banners to all the schools in the project.  This takes time as many schools are in hard to reach places and sometimes roads can be impassable but so far 260 schools have been covered.  We belive that the health and safety of children in school is crucial as the pandemic is far from over in Kenya, 24.7% of the population in Kericho county are fully vaccinated at this time and so the virus continues to spread in the community.

Along with resources, the teachers and the children are trained about COVID-19 prevention and treatment covering topics like correct handwashing procedures, social distancing, temperature checking and mask wearing.  During 2021, across 312 schools, 6,240 students were trained and these in turn trained their school population reaching 110,917 students and teachers in total. That's one very positive, good news transmission rate!

Handwashing facilities at strategic points of the school compound such as toilets and classrooms encourages regular handwashing which prevents the spread of COVID-19 and is also reducing illnesses related to hygiene so children miss less days of school and stay healthy.   Posters, banners and training encourages students to become advocates for disease prevention and control at home and in the community by talking to others about how to prevent the spread of viruses.

If you would like to donate again to this project - the next match funding campaign with GlobalGiving is on April 4th to 8th when all donations up to $50 will be match at 50% - and did you know that all new monthly donations will have their first donation matched at 100% after four total payments?

Thank you so much for your support keeping children safe at school.
