Through this project, we will sponsor the primary and secondary education of at least 1000 Nigerian children, allowing them to experience education rather than dropping out of school, which is the tragic fate of around 20 million Nigerian children as of 2023. We would also fight the menace of drug abuse, now rampant among Nigerian children dropping out of school, by counselling them to choose education and their well-being over substance abuse.
Every child deserves the gift of education, but sadly, according to UNICEF, one in every five of the world's out-of-school children is in Nigeria. Why is this so? One of the major reasons for this alarming statistic is the economic and poverty crises in the country. Access to basic education is farfetched because many cannot afford tuition fees and educational items. This educational gap results in a myriad of societal vices among children, with substance abuse increasingly at the forefront.
We support children to remain in school by covering educational costs like paying their tuition and donating educational resources like textbooks, school uniforms, shoes, stationery, etc. The trend of children dropping out of school in Nigeria is most common in rural communities, which are our target. Since their rehabilitation is paramount to academic success, we also provide counselling on drug abuse because many out-of-school children are under pressure to indulge in the act.
This initiative will take at least 1000 Nigerian children back to school to complete their primary or secondary education and be college-ready. It will also fight the rampage of child drug abuse by helping them stop it or resist the urge to try it for the first time. Potential long-term impact includes reduced out-of-school Nigerian children, better community values, reduced mental and physical illness from drug abuse, and an overall improvement of the economy owing to education.
